How much does tattoo removal actually cost? For many, the question arises as to the financial and health burden and the possibilities of changing or removing the motif. Although the cost is usually the deciding factor - whether and when to start treatment.
Should I have the tattoo removed or just have the tattoo lightened so that I can have a new design engraved after a while or have the old tattoo covered? Many people who are interested in laser tattoo removal ask these questions. We would like to provide you with some useful information and price examples here. In general: having a tattoo removed costs about ten times as much as getting it pierced, which may surprise some.
Cost factors for tattoo removal:
1. SIZE OF A TATTOO
The size of the tattoo is the biggest factor affecting the cost of tattoo removal. We will assess the tattoo, or measure the height and width of your tattoo. The larger they are, the more expensive it is to remove them.
2. LASERTECHNOLY
The laser used has a major influence on the price. Outdated technology and less powerful systems are still used by some studios/practices. A new, modern and, above all, powerful Q-Switched laser must be used and, thanks to its high performance quality, it also belongs to a high price category.
The most powerful laser with 3 wavelengths on the market is currently Qaunta Lasersystem, which we use here at LASER ÄSTHETIK. It has also been cleared by the FDA to create complete removals for most ink colours and all skin types. The picolaser, or picosecond laser, is extremely expensive and unfortunately not very effective. Therefore, the cost to have your tattoo removed by them is also expensive. Although the pulse duration is slightly faster here (a pulse duration of approx. 700ps is not even a ninth of 6ns and therefore less than 0.11 times shorter), the energy - the strength of the pulse, or energy density - is still significantly lower than with our laser. 3. INK INTENSITY
Colour density refers to the colour saturation in your tattoo. Small black outlines and grey shadows cost the least because they require the least amount of treatments. Tattoos with high saturation, such as tribals and bold coloured pieces, need to be treated more conservatively, requiring less laser energy and more sessions.
4. QUALITY OF THE INK
Ink quality is another big factor. You may be asking yourself: Ink quality? How the hell am I supposed to know the quality of my ink? No one really knows what kind of ink you have in your body. Reputable tattoo shops and artists use high quality inks for professional tattoos. Unfortunately, there is no way to know the quality of your tattoo ink before you start the treatment. Low quality inks can react more slowly and cause allergic reactions.
5. FARBE DER TÄTOWIERUNG
The colour of the ink also affects the cost of removing the tattoo. All pure black tattoos cost the least to remove. Why black? It is the easiest colour to remove and requires the least amount of treatment. Multi-coloured tattoos (especially greens and blues) are more difficult to remove and therefore require the most treatments. They also often require your practitioner/laser therapist to swap lasers or change wavelengths during treatment to effectively target the pigment within its given absorption spectrum.
6. FITZPATRICK SKINTYPE
A reputable practice classifies skin types using the Fitzpatrick scale. The laser distinguishes between the colour of the ink and the shade of your skin. The higher the contrast, the better. In practice, this means that lighter skin tones benefit the most from the least number of treatments, resulting in lower costs. Darker skin tones need to be treated more conservatively to avoid side effects such as hypopigmentation, which leads to more treatments.

All we do is laser treatments, specifically tattoo removal, and all you pay for is a safe, effective and efficient method of laser tattoo removal.
Consultations are always free of charge. During your consultation, our laser therapists will assess the size, colours and ink density of your tattoo and provide you with a cost per session. You will also receive an honest assessment of the number of sessions required to achieve the desired result. We do not require multi-session contracts.
