What are pigment spots?
Pigment spots are localised darker areas of skin that develop when the skin produces too much melanin in one place. They include freckles, age spots and the larger-scale melasma. They are usually harmless, but a cosmetic nuisance for many.
Causes: sun, hormones, inflammation
The most common triggers are UV radiation, hormonal changes (contraceptive pill, pregnancy – typical for melasma) and healed inflammation such as acne, which leaves dark shadows. Genetics also play a role.
Removing pigment spots: the methods we use
The first choice is laser pigment spot removal – precise, gentle, few sessions. Hormonally driven melasma requires a more cautious approach; depending on the findings we combine chemical peels and RF microneedling. We will define the right path together in a consultation.
